Here’s why Malahide tops the ‘most wanted’ list!

Carroll Estates have been building premium homes in Malahide for almost forty years, so we know a thing or two about what brings people to this coastal gem. We’re now on our sixteenth development in the area, so we’ve compiled our own list of Malahide’s leading attractions.

Location, location, location

Malahide has always been one of the most desirable and prestigious of addresses, and this has become even more apparent as the town continues to grow and develop. It offers the perfect mix of seaside living, easy commuting to Dublin City (25 minutes’ drive) and Dublin Airport (15 minutes’ drive). There’s also a superb choice of boutique shopping, café culture and fine dining. It really is the village that has it all.

It’s a great place to raise a family.

We know that new families moving into the area are concerned about the educational facilities on offer. They needn’t be! Malahide has a wonderful choice of excellent primary and secondary schools nearby, and there’s also a range of nearby creches and Montessori options.

Malahide is the perfect location for an idyllic family life. Its 3km beach connects with Portmarnock via a lovely coastal walk with spectacular views across the bay – this makes it ideal for walking, jogging or cycling. It’s a genuine haven for water sports, with sailing, paddleboarding, windsurfing and kayaking all highly popular, as is the magnificent Malahide Marina.

It’s impossible to be bored in Malahide!

One of the jewels of the area is Malahide Castle & Gardens, a 12th-century castle set on 260 acres with walking trails, walled gardens, and a butterfly house. It hosts regular events throughout the year, including the spectacular winter festival, Wonderlights, plus numerous Summer Sessions and a weekly Park Run.

There’s also the Casino Model Railway Museum on your doorstep, while Ardgillan Castle, Newbridge House and Swords Castle are all less than a thirty-minute drive away. The village itself offers a fantastic mix of historic architecture plus great pubs, cafes and restaurants. And if retail therapy is your thing, Malahide has some wonderful boutiques and artisan stores to keep you happy.

It’s a fabulous choice for commuters.

It’s genuinely very hard to find a village with better transport links on offer. A DART and train station in Malahide Village offer a direct city service and links to the national rail network. There are also regular Dublin Bus routes (including H-spine buses). If you’re taking the car, you have easy access to both the M1 and M50 motorways. And with Dublin Airport just 15 minutes away by car, travelling abroad for work or leisure is as easy as pie.

Malahide is a sports fan’s dream.

If you or your family are the sporty types, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Malahide. The local Cricket Club hosts international matches, while Malahide Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club is a firm favourite. Then there’s the very popular St Sylvester’s GAA Club, offering Gaelic football, hurling and camogie to adult and underage teams alike. There’s also Malahide United A.F.C., which fields a number of teams, plus Malahide Golf Club, a wonderful 27-hole parkland course.

It’s village life as you’ve always imagined it

Malahide is very much a traditional village, with a strong community life and a great sense of civic pride. You can make friends easily here, whether you’re one of the daily sea swimmers at Low Rock, High Rock and Portmarnock Beach, or perhaps signing up to the numerous clubs and societies that are so much a part of Malahide life.
